What can I do to see what is taking up all of my hard disk space on my core duo macbook?
I have a core- duo intel macbook and i have less than like 10 gb of hard-disk space left, but only about 20 gigs is accounted for, so i have 40 gb of space that is being used that i have no clue where it went. Some one help me please!
Here are a couple of thoughts:
1. Empty your cache in all of your internet programs.
2. Delete all junk email and empty the trash cans.
3. Go to HD_Library_Printers folder. There are probably a ton of printer description folders for assorted printers you will never need (some up to 115 megs). Keep what you need and delete the rest.
4. If your running OS9 and OSX, your mail is going to both systems. Restart in 9 and empty the mail/cache/history.
5. Delete all of the “Samples” that came with installing the system software and any extra files you will never need (e.g. pdf files)
6. Open all of your applications folders and trash all of the sample files that came with them.
**If you use limewire, any file that was partially downloaded will remain in a folder entitled “incomplete”. If you use it a lot, these files will add up.
Best bet would be to purchase an external Hard Drive and back up everything to be safe then possibly reformat the hard drive fresh.
