What socket would I need for an intel Dual Core?
I am building my own computer and I am going to go and get a 3.5ghz dual core, but i need to know what socket it will be so i don’t stuff up with the motherboard.
Intel dual cores use the LGA 775 socket, or also called Socket T. A few other things you may want to consider with a mobo,(motherboard)
1.What cpu’s does it support? Dual Core? Quad Core? What if in the future,(since games are going to the Quad Core), you want to upgrade the cpu? Will it support Quad Core? Will it support up to a 1333MHz FSB? Does it support the new core design’s? Penyrn, Yorkfield, Wolfdale, Nehalem?
2.Does it have support for at least PCI-Express version 1.1? Does it support PCI-Express version 2.0? New graphics cards are PCI-E 2.0 No reason to half-step, if you can afford it. If the mobo has more than one PCI-Express x16 slot, does installing two graphics cards get you 16x speed for both graphics cards, or 16x for one, and 8x for the other. Check out what chipset,(Northbridge/Southbridge), the mobo uses, and ‘google’ this chipset on the ‘net.
3.How many Sata headers does it have, and at what speed will they support up to?
4.RAID built-in? If so, which RAID configurations does it support? 0, 0+1, 5?
5.What ram does it support? What style, speed, and does it have EPP? (Enhanced Performance Profile) EPP isn’t necessary, but it’s nice to have, for those who don’t know how to confgure their ram settings, should they need to.
Solid capacitors, or electrolytic capacitors? I believe solid capacitors are overrated. There’s a lot of factual data out there to support this theory.
Just thought I’d throw a few variables out there.
